Re: What are your favorite lines/verses from songs?"I took you for a dancer and now we are here alone."
"Smile", Jamiroquai (I hope he means the kind of dancer I was, not the kind on poles/laps ![]() "Those lips were made to kiss me." "Smile", Jamiroquai Just hot - sexy and romantic; but my dirty mind always thinks "kiss you where??" ![]()
Re: What are your favorite lines/verses from songs?wow! amazing
![]() "She needs me" is part of the ballad album? I will buy it soon! I've been kinda busy ![]() I do love "Smile". I don't think the "dancer" reference means stripper, but lover. there are a few references to dancer on the album, so thinking he's not dating a bunch of strippers!! ![]() Last edited by Giba7 on Wed Feb 26, 2014 12:55 am, edited 1 time in total.
Re: What are your favorite lines/verses from songs?Coldplay, one band I really love,
Violet Hill: I took my love down to violet hill There we sat in snow All that time she was silent, still Said if you love me Won't you let me know? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PvpWJhxp8m4 3:10
Re: What are your favorite lines/verses from songs?I love the song Lifeline:
Don't pick no hole in my soul Don't you spoil my sweet charade I get high on the girl For me she was clearly made but I laugh at this one: I get the blues with the news Girl let's get it on the hoof ![]() ![]()
Re: What are your favorite lines/verses from songs?"I used to speak the truth but now I'm clever" - Happy Mondays
It can't get better than this ![]()
Re: What are your favorite lines/verses from songs?"Time won't wait for you,
So do all the things you wanted to, Every second screams "listen to your dreams" Cos' you just can't stop the clock !" I think everybody on this forum know that tune ![]()
Re: What are your favorite lines/verses from songs? One Republic's "Counting Stars" favorite song (besides Happy)
I could lie, couldn't I, could lie everything that kills me makes me feel alive lately I've been, I've been losing sleep dreaming about the things that we could be but baby I've been, I've been praying hard said, no more counting dollars we'll be, we'll be counting stars ![]() http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K1X3jf9Fx58
Re: What are your favorite lines/verses from songs?
Love love love this one! (and Happy too!) ![]() "I close my eyes only for a moment and the moments gone all my dreams pass before my eyes in curiosity dust in the wind, all they are is dust in the wind Same old song, just a drop of water in an endless sea all we do, crumbles to the ground though we refuse to see dust in the wind, all we are is dust in the wind " Kansas - Dust in the Wind
Re: What are your favorite lines/verses from songs?MissLisa
"Dust in the Wind"? that was my favorite song as a kid! ![]() Eminem is all about rhythm and lyrics, and lyrics, and lyrics... favorite line from "Rap God" is "Still funky but chunky" which I learned is a nod to Heavy D. well, it's maybe also the only lyric I can grasp from all his ranting!! ![]() he sounds like he is really battling some demons ![]()
Re: What are your favorite lines/verses from songs?@ my girl Giba7 - yes love the lyrics of "Lifeline" and it is funny but girl, I do really get the "blues with the news" - the line after that I don't quite get so do tell. But the news today - such a downer.
OMG, that song is like Prozac, Lexapro - i.e., happiness in a bottle - I love it. I'll have to come back and quote some of my fav verses from that song. That song makes me visualize my arms around the waist of guy speeding in a Harley or other motorcycle and snuggling the hair sticking out of his helmet and us just f------ escaping. I am a big scent person - I use a ton of sh--- that smells like vanilla. Cheers me up and makes me feel good. (Jetlagged and tired but missed my little burgeoning Jamily while traveling ![]()
Re: What are your favorite lines/verses from songs? From Bob Dylan's "Lay Lady Lay":
"Whatever colors you have in your mind I'll show them to you and you'll see them shine." "Stay, lady, stay, stay with your man awhile Until the break of day, let me see you make him smile His clothes are dirty but his hands are clean And you're the best thing that he's ever seen." This song listening on the plane ride back just made me feel high (sans drugs) - like I was floating on this big bed with all white sheets (pref. Egyptian cotton - lol ![]()
Re: What are your favorite lines/verses from songs?nice lyrics.
just read an article on him. I put that on twitter. he was blinded by the sun, and crashed his motorcycle ('69?) but it was an awakening for him.
Re: What are your favorite lines/verses from songs?wow - interesting history on the song. It's the only Dylan song on my IPhone. I do not know a lot of Bob Dylan. Please send me the link to the article because I have loved that song for years - and various versions thereof. I am not on twitter
![]() ![]() Gonna PM you cuz something has been on mind (that's another song I like by Donald Fra-----------) I found my fav Lifeline lyrics but will have to post them tomorrow or another time. The crickets (around my home) are going nuts tonight - I read it is the female mating sound. The female makes the sound to attract the males. I have got some horny a--- crickets outside. Nice noise to fall asleep to however.
Re: What are your favorite lines/verses from songs?"2073
2084 2093 Light years ahead you and me gonna be getting down on a space bed We gonna be getting married in June We gonna be getting down on the moon Light years . . . interplanetary forms on the get down Star wars interplanetary funk still getting down Music won't have no race only face. Peaceful face." One of my favs of Marvin Gaye; "A Funky Space Reincarnation" You just gotta hear it; hard to capture the funky, smooth vibe type written. Love the last two lines above.
Re: What are your favorite lines/verses from songs?ok Lifeline one of my favorites on RDLS and very befitting of sunny Los Angeles today - 83 degrees high - so I'll be hitting the beach soon. My favorite lines from the song:
"Rolling Down the sunny avenues" "Free ride I haven't got a care in the world." "Sweet life we're holding onto the best life." These lines always make me feel good - they aren't deep or heavy lyrics- but they make me feel happy and cheer me up always ![]() Peace.
Re: What are your favorite lines/verses from songs?2 fabulous songs. I have to admit, I don't always know lyrics.
but I think Lifeline goes: "Sweet life we're holding onto this life...and all because you saved me" "down the sunny avenues" probably from your country -California As for Funky Space Reincarnation -that song makes me laugh. ![]() And when you read the lyrics you realize how much it probably influenced Jamiroquai. I miss the crickets from my other house out in the wilderness.
Re: What are your favorite lines/verses from songs?Girl, Gaye's "Ego Tripping" is even more hilarious . . . but so on point about materialism and consumerism in this world. He was light years ahead of his time; and ultimately I think it hurt him in the end but gave us great, thought provoking music.
It's sad, Gaye was preparing to file bankruptcy at the end of his very short life - and I am close friends with the attorney (he was at my wedding) who was going to handle the case. I also ran into Chaka Khan at his office as well. He's handled other artists' bankruptcies as well. Sad. Anyways, it is important to watch your money and do not spend more than what you bring in. However, I still feel a lot artist get screwed over. Jay deserves respect in that case because he seems to have had/has control over that issue. I mean, look at Rihanna and her recent case.
Re: What are your favorite lines/verses from songs?OK lyrics - not the biggest Kanye fan anymore after MBDF but this line in Bound 2 almost gets me into trouble while driving but love it every time I hear it:
"CLOSE YOUR EYES AND LET THE WORDS PAINT A THOUSAND PICTURES" Bound 2 - Kanye West (there are other lines in this song my filthy mind quite enjoys but the one above gets me on the purest level.)
Re: What are your favorite lines/verses from songs?ok now I think you've stalked me and are now name dropping
-Chaka Khan ![]() Kanye does have some provoking lyrics. so you have lyrics like: "Imagine no possessions I wonder if you can No need for greed or hunger A brotherhood of man Imagine all the people Sharing all the world..." and then today there's: "She’s a beast I call her Karma (come back)" she eats your heart out like jeffrey dahmer"
Re: What are your favorite lines/verses from songs? Two words cuz I have to really have to run: "SWEET THING" . . . re Chaka. One of my favorite songs.
(I heard Mary J. Blige's version first (I'm a youngin') but Rufus and Chaka's . . . just awwwh) "Through the Fire" and other song that starts "Chaka Chaka Chaka Khan" - oooh - "I Feel For You." ? However, gosh no - no name dropping. This attorney (my "other" Dad - one of the smartest men I know, whose parents survived the Holocaust- introduced me to Otis Redding, amazing old school soul, jazz and more) has represented huge celebs I could name drop but Chaka (and entourage/family) was just there one day I was visiting. I did not think it was a big deal - more an example of how great artists do not manage their finances or get screwed over. I just remember the Marvin Gaye bankruptcy story because obviously I am a huge fan of Marvin - and I think he told me about that long before I "really" got into Marvin. Living out life/bad relationships made me appreciate and relate to Marvin's music more. Big sigh - I just find Marvin's ending so sad; so much talent, such a visionary, the drugs, his dad. And screw the US in some ways because he was overseas when some of his new "different" stuff was created that I love. Our country is quite strange about accepting culture/music/race - a lot of great artists - writers and musicians escaped to Europe (Miles, Josephine Baker and more - the whole lost generation.) Funny - I was thinking the same thing about you (like, does she have access to my ITunes' library or something??; but there's a ton of heavy metal there so . . .) But I have yet to meet a person (and I know a ton of folks) that appreciates and knows about Marvin's music as much as you. Sh--- so much for two words. My husband says I suffer from needing to have the "last word" or "get my point in" - true. But I love Chaka - but I do not have a big catalog on her like I do Marvin or other artists. Will try to write back tomorrow - enjoying my free lazy days in sunny California - but suppose to be somewhere 30 min ago. And coming here has (sickly?! strange?!) become part of my daily routine when I am in LA;; not working - like flossing and brushing my teeth - haha! but true -and I can do both simultaneously.) Am I weird for rather wanting to discuss music than getting dolled up and going out drinking? Thank God, no one in LA knows I am Jami fan. Or at least fan enough to come here. ![]()
Re: What are your favorite lines/verses from songs? This will be quick:
Great lyrical examples - but curious what Kanye songs are those? He is quite good with lyrics although he totaling ripped the term "MALIBUING IT" from me. No sh*t, you can ask my friends and family. I've been Malibuing it for years. Totally bit my style. Omg - "Sympathy for the Devil" - Rolling Stones - just came on - now I am ready to party and get lit. "Please to meet you, hope you guess my name . . ." ![]()
Re: What are your favorite lines/verses from songs?nobody's version compares to Chaka's! not even Blige's!
Re: What are your favorite lines/verses from songs?"I know I'm gonna reach my destination -
Use the Porsche" - (I had to correct this post - she sang it again today; and now plans to write an entire song based on use the force ![]() My 1Der, 9 year old niece revised a Jamiroquai line from "use the force" yesterday when I picked up her and her sis up from school. Gave my girlfriend and I a good glad laugh. My niece has always pointed out that she likes the lyrics in "Use in the Force" (I love the lyrics too.) Hope 1D does not cover this song ![]() Still need to get out of taking them to the 1D concert in Sept.
