LOL i wanna hear that!!!!! :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:
and i noticed that the version i have sounds like the music was pre-recorded and jay just sang along to it....sounded quite unprofessional....

True. The version you heard is the "original mix" aka "extended mix" (<<NOT TRUE) aka "album version". The original version is the full horns mix. You see, DYKWYCF was first just a demo tape J did for a friend. The tape somehow got into the hands of a radio disc jockey of KISS 100 FM, who played it. J was at first pissed off about the leak, but after he heard people liked his little demo version (which IS the original version the music was pasted from into the album version), he recorded a different vocal take, which was just an a capella recording onto the tapes from the demo version. (That also proves that the demo, too, is a multitrack recording... But I still don't bet how the drum mic couldn't pick Jay voice up, too...)

The version I sent you recently in that ZIP file is the version from the promo acetate, which bears the vocals in the right speaker, and the instrumental in the L speaker.

DYKWYCF timeline:

Jay takes demo for a friend > Jason smokes a joint > the tape gets leaked onto KISS 100 FM > Jay smokes another joint > Jay is pissed about the leak > Jay is in a good mood, though, so he decides to do an album version > he takes the multitrack of the demo, and uses only the instrumental of it, and records a different vocal line to it. The version with the different vocals becomes the album version, which is also a multitrack. The demo got unusually awfully recorded horns (blame $ony's studio techies), and a subtitle: "Full horns mix"... > Jay smoked anouther joint.

I have the FH mix on my PC, but I can't send it now.

Diffs between DYK demo and 'album' versions:

Demo: vocal take #1;
Album: vocal take #2;

Demo: M-beat recorded a rap verse to the song. It was cut from the final, but remains in some mixes ("Hands & feet mix"); there's also some scatting by Jay done in the old version;
Album: No rap, no scats, no nothing.

BTW, odd thing I discovered just now - the longest version of the song, the weird acetate version ends before it completely fades out. What can be heard is a drumbeat cut in half. That gives enough proof that the song was meant to be longer, MUCH longer. (10 minutes? Too bad we'll never get to hear the uncut version...)

i knew that...i'm not that much of a noob lol

i noticed that...i find it rather odd!(any way to separate the instrumental from the vocal since the vocal is on R and instruments on L?)

i know!!!sounds like someone turned up the radio or somethin,and it got recorded...that's why i thought it was the original ehehe

Well, I can do that. (Audacity's a bitch, though, and crashes when it loads more than 2 songs...) However, there is a slight problem that manifests itself in form of not-so-total track separation. You see, you get the illusion of the vocal and the instrumental being separate when you listen to them together. However, the illusion breaks when you listen to either the a capella or the instru alone, as you can hear a realtively silent instru in the a capella and vice versa.

I think that the separation of the a capella and the instru on that promo was because of anti-piracy measures... Ironically, it had to backfire so totally, as everybody prefers that version to the album one... :shock:

AHHHHHH I get a headache just thinking about this question I could NEVER choose ONE song! what about the live tunes, the remixes, the extended versions the different styles of albums?
Some of the original songs are amazing and then I don't particulary like one of the remixes, and then other songs work in reverse and the remix really hits the spot.......then you hear it live it's a whole new ball game!...Don't even get me started on songs for different moods.
Sorry I just had to throw that one into the mix! :wink:
