Talk about music - songs/albums that you love, and the ones that you don't.|
Mary by Supergrass...http://youtu.be/9DYKifSm9XM
I got a girl and her name is mary
I like to shock her on a basis daily
I'd like to push her over into my dreams
I'd like to point out that her teeth are green..........
I can think up a few...how about you?....
One funny song by the Belgian legend Jacques Brel:
One traditional German song by the 2 masters of cheesyness, André Rieu and Heino:
One rather good song, by Toto:
@ Ophone- Rosamunde, man these people look happy (appear to be from another planet, but happy)
Rosanna, by Toto- I definitely recognize that one!
Here is the second pick that comes to my mind, Angie by the Rolling Stones
They played this @ all our high school dances.....girls remember the feeling of having to slow dance with guys you really didn't want to but felt sorry for them?I had a hard time saying no
Hey I felt it this morning, really! I thought "Hmm... Maybe there'll be new topics this evening? But... why on earth am I thinking about that??!" Can't even remember when it was... must be my subconscious...
Angela- I don't remember the artist(s)... just the tune and some snatches of the video, I think I was about 4 or 5 the last time I heard it... And I've never seen/heard it again though I often think about it! (don't know why by the way)
I was sending out cosmic vibes to you MissLisa..
I was waiting for one of you guys to say ....Tallulah and Angeline!!!! Bless Jay's little soul
Lola by the Kinks but to keep it interesting I posted the Robbie Williams cover....
http://youtu.be/f5s78q96HHAI feel like a cherry cola...
Jolene written by Dolly Parton in 1973 but I prefer The White Stripes rendition...
http://youtu.be/4m5KrPXL4wI Jack says "I am in the right place @ the wrong time... that's how I feel everyday!.... factor of 10!
Wendy originally by the Beach Boys but who cares. The Descendents version is way more important to me mems of riding in a yellow plymouth duster
Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds - The Beatles
Roxanne - The Police
Jay Kay was interviewed on a music video show in Australia called Video Hits in 2010 (after the release of RDLS) and the host asked if he would like to request a song. He asked if it could be an old song, and he chose "Angie" by the Stones! This made me wonder if this song inspired "Angeline".
Damn, I tried to find the video of the interview, but Video Hits was cancelled last year and their website has disappeared. It was a great interview.
"Jolene" was also covered by the Rocker on the Voice last season!
Jack White is a great musician. And I think the White Stripes really made it big in Canada, eh?
"Angie" is a great song by the Stones.
"Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" & "Roxanne" are classics!
@CosmicLea -I couldn't find the Australian RS interview
I don't really think so. I think they are, and always will be, a little underground. Only a chosen few can appreciate them...
@CosmicLea good choices! come to think of it I am surprised they didn't come to my mind I must see Yellow Submarine again haven't seen it since I was a wee one
Okay..lets go way back in time... to my favourite ska band's song Message to you Rudy by the Specials
No, I haven't been able to find it on the internet either.
I'd love for you to read it. From what I remember, the things I didn't like were that in regard to being single, Jay said something about women always moaning (being annoying) though he did say he thought Australian women were great. I can't remember exactly what was said, but the way it was written made him sound a bit of a misogynist. And he spoke of having hit rock bottom professionally when he had to sing Cosmic Girl on a television show with an "amateur". I assume it referred to this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KcXEku6J5Jk
I wonder if anyone on Jamirotalk.net would have the interview?
Sorry, I can't think of any great songs named after women at the moment!
@CosmicLea -thanks for trying! Yeah Jamirotalk probably do know where the interview!
Australian women don't moan too much! Maybe that's why Jay spent 10 days in Australia.
(but some men like women moaning!)
Maybe he is a misogynist and should switch to hip-hop!
And definitely heard Lucy in the sky w/diamonds is about LSD.
But Lucy is such a great name! My great-grandmother was named Lucia!
(sorry, can't think of any songs named after women!)
ahhh poor Jay just hasn't met the right one yet Or maybe Jazzhole is right and he seeks out all the nasty girls...and gets burned....hmm let me ponder that one..
Jennifer Juniper by donovan
Jennifer juniper, lives upon the hill
Jennifer Juniper, sitting very still
Is she sleeping, I don't think so
Is she breathing, yes, very low
Watcha doing, Jennifer my love?
That really is a classic song, isn't it?
I wonder if LisaTheLisa knows about this one?
I was thinking the same thing.
