Lyrics

Talk about music - songs/albums that you love, and the ones that you don't.

What lyrics do you like? What do you not like?

So, the song "Pretty Girls" by Iyaz ft. Travie McCoy has a line that says
Trying to find a pretty girl that these shoes go nice with
so she can kick you after that dumb line!

And New Boyz ft. Chris Brown in the song "Better with the Lights off"
Well, the title is the dumb lyrics!

Lyrics I don't like -

Last Friday Night - Katy Perry: "Then had a menage a trois"

I have a tween daughter which is why I hate lyrics like this. I really don't want to hear her singing along! And Katy Perry is a repeat offender with naughty lyrics: "I kissed a girl and I liked it" and "Sex on the beach"!!

I do agree -the radio even plays these songs out!
It's kinda like that "shock" appeal. What more can you do to surprise people?
The young female artists here (U.S.) when they are marketed after they make a good album or two, are changed to be trampy! I don't know how else to put it.

I agree and I have young boys. What about when you are listening to a song and you get the lyrics wrong. I did that with Soul Education. Instead of hearing ..."I found a god that I can pray to" .... I heard ....."I found a dog that I can breed to"

Yes, that "shock" appeal. Wynter Gordon's "Dirty Talk" was a no.1 single here last year and was played on mainstream radio during child-friendly hours. I think those lyrics are really disgusting.

And what has happened to Rihanna? "S&M' is another song with nasty lyrics but she seemed so sweet when "Pon de Replay" came out. :(

Yes, Rihanna "Rude Boy" and "S & M" are great songs but just nasty!

"Come here rude boy, boy, can you get it up?
Come here rude boy, boy, is you big enough?
Tonight Imma give it you harder"
 "Umbrella" is my favorite. And she has a beautiful voice in "Fly".

Never heard that song "Dirty Talk" before.

 I remember when I first heard that song on the radio I thought "Did she really just say that?!"

I love the song "Please don't stop the music" as well. It's a shame, I really like both Rihanna and Katy Perry's songs, it's just those nasty lyrics I can do without. I worry about the young girls listening to these songs and how they might be influenced. Especially "Dirty Talk" - Giba have a listen on YouTube but prepare to be shocked! This one really takes it too far. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r4XjmDqG48A&ob=av2e The second verse is really nasty!

What a goofy song! They're kinda that spoof band. Not too serious.
But they are both related to Gordy.

I grew up on Billy Joel the Piano Man.

As for nasty lyrics, I'd have to say the one to win the award for "shock" is Kelly Rowland's "Motivation".
It features Lil' Wayne so I assume it is Cash Records.
And well, it is sort of the feminist rap!

I always skip Rihanna and Lady GaGa songs. It's a cheap way to earn your money, using lyrics like that. Don't like it at all. And I always end up singing those nasty lyrics out loud without noticing it myself

I love Butterfly by Jason Mraz! Is it just me or did he magicaly turn his words in to softporn

I'm taking a moment just imaginin' that I'm dancin' with you
I'm your pole and all you're wearing is your shoes
You got soul, you know what to do to turn me on until I write a song about you
And you have your own engaging style
And you've got the knack to vivify
And you make my slacks a little tight, you may unfasten them if you like
That's if you crash and spend the night

But you don't fold, you don't fade
You've got everything you need, especially me
Sister you've got it all
You make the call to make my day
In your message say my name
Your talk is all the talk, sister you've got it all

Curl your upper lip up and let me look around
Ride your tongue along your bottom lip and bite down
And bend your back and ask those hips if I can touch
Because they're the perfect jumping off point of getting closer to your

Butterfly
Well you float on by
Oh kiss me with your eyelashes tonight
Or Eskimo your nose real close to mine
And let's mood the lights and finally make it right
But you don't fold, you don't fade, you've got everything you need
Especially me
Sister you've got it all

You make the call to make my day
In your message say my name
Your talk is all the talk sister you've got it all
You've got it all, you've got it all, you've got it all [2x]

You've got it all, you've got it all

Doll I need to see you pull your knee socks up
Let me feel you up side, down slide, in slide, out slide, over here
Climb in my mouth now child

Butterfly, well you landed on my mind
Dammit you landed on my ear and then you crawled inside
Now I see you perfectly behind closed eyes
I wanna fly with you and I don't wanna lie to you
Cause I, cause I can't recall a better days
Sun coming to shine on the occasion

You're an open-minded lady
You've got it all
And I never forget a face
If I'm making my own
I have my days
Let's face the fact here, it's you who's got it all

You know that fortune favors the brave
Well let me get paid while I make you breakfast
The rest is up to you, you make the call

You make the call to make my day
In your message say my name
Your talk is all the talk, sister you've got it all

Cause I can't recall a better day
Sun comin' to shine on the occasion
You're a sophisticated lady, oh you've got it all

:) so now there is a channel dedicated to just "child appropriate" music videos called juicebox. I am not sure if it is American or Canadian based. It doesn't play Barney or anything, it is geared toward the older child..my boys are not quite interested yet, but good to know for the future.

"She's a melody, that I tried to forget but I can't, it still follows me, when I wake in the dead of the night.." .... change the "she" for an "he" and Jamie Cullum just wrote what I've been thinking for a month now

Sweetness, sweetness I was only joking when I said
I'd like to smash every tooth in your head.........

Sweetness, sweetness I was only joking when I said
by rights you should be bludgeoned in your bed......

Use the Force - Jamiroquai

I must believe,
I'm a rocket man
I'm a superstar
I must believe

Natural Energy - Jamiroquai

Can't you understand that you can be so much of what you want?

Who's sorry now - Dean Martin ( but i think it's just a cover)

Who's sorry now, who's sorry now
Whose heart is achin' for breakin' each vow
Who's sad and blue, who's cryin' too
Just like I cried over you

Right to the end just like a friend
I tried to warn you somehow
You had your way, now you must pay
I'm glad that you're sorry now

Right to the end just like a friend
I tried to warn you somehow
You had your way, now you must pay
I'm glad that you're sorry now

About that whole sexual content on music industry... well, it has always been there. I grew up to " Sex bomb", ya? I think this sexual content is okay for mind opening but it's going too far. Anyway, nowadays there are 10 year old kids browsing the internet watching 2 girls 1 cup and porn. When i was 9 i would be really happy if i had a new color pencils set... now 9 year old kids write letters to santa asking for an iphone :?: this kind of materialism and show off only leads to a status-seeking values, and therefore an higher wish of wanting to be a grown up. Being on a post-feminist society doesn't really help because now women take much more initiative on starting sexual intercourse ( i don't judge them on that tho  ).
Behold the raise of the slut generation
