What are you listening now?

Talk about music - songs/albums that you love, and the ones that you don't.

@Cacouna
haha! you don't want to see me again? or the song?
I hope I didn't offend your song choice.
I didn't mean it was a horrible song! just sad!
why do we like the sad songs?
:D

@joliefille -Seal song is great. Never heard it.
I love Donna Summer's Last Dance!
Thelma Houston song is vulnerable. hits your soul, like Aretha.
I grew up with that tune btw. ;) She was the one soul artist my mom listened to.

Mmmmmm . . . good question about sad songs. I think a really great sad song connects to our heart and expresses emotions we all feel or felt and makes us feel less alone and comforted in our sadness or even when we are happy but have experienced something sad.

(I apologize for the rambling but my espresso is just not kicking in so I am having difficulty putting my thoughts in succinct words. haha! :-) Also why I love good music - it expresses thoughts/emotions a million times better than I do.)

Well not now but last night I quite enjoyed this song by Seal:

"Touch" Acoustic Version

(If you have free time please check out Seal's interview about God, the universe, the creative process of writing music http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U4NcOryfHIg) He is quite intelligent and spiritual.

Jimi Hendrix documentary - "Hear My Train A' Comin"

Just so much talent - and so humble. It is on Netflix in the US. The footage and music is incredible.

(recovering, hence all the posts "you're gonna miss me when I am gone" - haha! that's a song, right??? but cannot recall the singer. Painkillers perhaps :-) I am so kidding - just a muscle relaxer haha! :-) still kidding ;-). But does not seem like anyone even comes here other than Giba :-)

"the Makings of You" - Curtis Mayfield.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rnXTcssDMNk

It is a song for everyone - we were all made this lovely - we can f--- it up however - but it captures most humans' most beautiful essence. My older brother introduced this song to me - and I carry it with me.

@cacouna - nice - those type of encounters do not happen a lot - I would relish it. It's purpose will probably crop up later; maybe the experience is opening you up for the next guy :-)

I like the Reggae groove in that tune Cacouna -it's been playing on the radio here a while but never knew the name or group!

Marvin Gaye!

I've been listening to Stevie! here's my youtube path
 Stevie "Superwoman"
Donny Hathaway "Superwoman"
Donny Hathaway "I love you more than you'll ever know"
Amy Winehouse "I love you more than you'll ever know" (original Blood, Sweat & Tears)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=362JArvhAqg

such soul.

"Angela" - Bob James - on "Touchdown"

@Giba - I hope your boy Steve (:-) plays "Superwoman" at the upcoming concerts but I just learned the concert is to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Songs in the Key of Life so . . . I did not know he was on Universal either.

I do not really know of Donny Hathaway and his songs or voice. Love Amy Winehouse - what a talent.

no he won't be playing "Superwoman" as he is only playing songs from In the Key of Life.
I mean I'll be shocked to hear a concert cover an entire album exclusively. But that's what I've read.

too bad -I keep singing the lyrics to Superwoman!

Mmm - that Donny Hathaway song is kind of a downer . . . @Giba - you got the blues? It picks up a little around 2:55 but I want my $1.29 back from Itunes.

I will have to check out the track list for that Stevie Wonder album - I like as "As" and "Knocks Me Off My Feet" before the concert. Still going regardless.

The latest U2 album just came up on my Iphone music under purchased tracks despite that I did not purchase or download it. I love U2 but not digging this stuff (I also have not given it a real listen however.) I know they were the giving this one away.

Apparently, most artists do not make money albums anymore. Also, they get paid literally nothing when people stream their music on YouTube. A music exec told me how an artist received a check for about $1,300 for more than one million streams (hits?) on youtube. I thought this was nuts given all the advertising on the site.

I think the tune "Knocks me off My Feet" that hits me most is they keep his voice at bay.
It sounds almost too controlled and think it's more due to the production. His voice is kept back a bit.
He has more power on most other tunes.

No I don't have the blues -I just absolutely love voice, and I feel it's best demonstrated in the style of Soul!
as for the Donny Hathaway tune  ok so he's a bit dramatic! His approach is slower and sadder -but so Soulful. It is almost too much! But I still love his voice. Amy does it perfectly!
Best tune by Hathaway tune ever is definitely http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o2t44nu4r38
best delivery ever!

times are different today. Youtube is great to hear a song. And I hit youtube sometimes even if I own the song on cd! :P One day perhaps they'll require an account and charge us per youtube hit.

The joke today is all about U2 download showing up for free and nobody wants it!
I am not a fan ;)

haha! :-) You know what I am smiling at. Yes, I hope other artists do not start doing that on Itunes.

"Songs in the Key of Life" is a quite amazing - we are lucky actually. There are a lot of great songs on that album.

now playing: "Blackbird" - The Beatles
