Here is the Taratata performance & interview in France.
They perform Deeper Underground & Rock Dust Light Star
And the interview is fantastic! Love the host! He asks a lot of great questions.

So funny, the song at the end "California Soul" which apparantly he covers, is disputed on who did it originally, Marlena Shaw or Ashford & Simpson, here is what I find:
"California Soul" is a pop-soul tune written by Ashford & Simpson, issued originally as a single by American pop quintet The Fifth Dimension in late 1968. It was also covered by Motown vocal duo Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell the next year and was the duo's last single together when released in early 1970.

Both the Fifth Dimension's version and the Gaye/Terrell version were modest charted hits. The original performed better reaching number twenty-five on the pop singles chart, while Marvin and Tammi's cover reached number fifty-six pop but never charted R&B. The duet was released after Terrell's tragic death from a brain tumor in March 1970.

The song was a socially conscious-type of song advocating love and peace.

In 1969 Bluenote singer Marlena Shaw also did a version of the song which is now featured in a Dockers commercial circa 2008. The Diplo remix appears on the Verve Remixed volume 4 compilation album.

at first i didn't like california soul, jay sounded a bit rusty but after a few more listens it started to grow on me and now i like it

the performances and interview were great....especially towards the end when they showed a clip of little jay, the interviewer was trying to get jay's attention but he kept rambling on with his story..i thought that was kinda cute :)

I've watch the California Soul perfomance on YouTube and I think it's awesome! Like Funkyette said it sounds like Jay sounds kind of raspy at first but it got better. Finally they cover a song again. :)

I don't think Jay sounded particularly rusty on California Soul, but rather it sounded like he was trying to come across with the vocal sound that he used in "Hurtin'."
