How do you feel right now?

This is the place for the Cosmic Girls and Space Cowboys to chat about subjects that are not related to Jamiroquai. Subjects that don't quite fit in the Funktion Room should also be posted here. Introduce yourselves to one another in here.

Really? Why? What would you guys do differently?

haha! I am glad I had those last ten years - needed them to learn and grow.

Currently feeling: serene, relaxed, chill, being, loving doing nothing. Trying to enjoy it while lasts. Heading to NYC next week and it will be the complete opposite of what I am feeling now :-(

Very sad for Phillip Seymour Hoffman. I really loved him and now he was found dead and I don't know what to think about it! How can such a great actor, just die? It was the exact same thing with Michael Jackson, it blew my mind and I will never forget that day... :(

I find it funny that early Jamiroquai fans complain of where JK is today.
What did they expect him to become? the Earth Prophet?
He's a young guy talking politics. He believes you can fix the world.
youth is idealism. Jay's trying to create a social movement, to make some changes.
(environmental movements really began in the 1970)
But the world's governments are run by many many people, hard to make changes.

The world is structured into global stratification. The wealthy industrial nations are the imperialists, exploiting the poor countries, keeping them dependent. These powerful nations often create war to obtain resources of a nation or to control the people.

age gives into cynicism.

but I did enjoy the young interview!

No but with his problem of drugs and alcohol, he lost a lot of voice's height, i get big cheeks and a puffy face...
And i think song about environement or politics will be more interesting that song about girl. (Even if there's is great love song in the last album like Smoke And Mirrors, Talulah and Love Blind)

(but he always still cute  )

@ElTouffoDrum please excuse me if I come across rude. (btw are you a girl or guy?)
(my forte is to apologize the next day)
JK's voice definitely has variety. Sometimes it's strong, falsetto, raspy. I don't see it's gone to pot
  that was a pun!!

my motto, if you don't like an artist, don't follow them.
if you don't like someone, don't hang with them.
If you must be around them for some time, just seem busy!

I think we all talk sh*t about people, but maybe my response is because it's rude to go to their website and criticize them. :D maybe I just take the opposite stance for the value of discussion.

2 artists came under fire this week:
Flea's guitar wasn't plugged in at the Superbowl performance. The set change was too quick to have it properly set up so they pre-recorded the instruments, only Anthony was live. Lots of criticism once fans realized he was unplugged and miming. (I think his guitar was still playing cuz he's so fab).

And Jay-Z hesitated when thanking God at the Grammy's. A local journalist blew that one up.
ridiculous. only looking at the negative side.

I wouldn't do well in the spotlight.
I think that's what "White Knuckle Ride" is about.

I'm a guy.. not necesseraly a girl (or gay) because i find Jay cute
I don't understood the pun, sorry for my english level :P

But think i am in right to say that Jay messed around. When you put money on the CD's, on the concert (no yet buuut... :D ), when you contribuate to make known the band and when the band give you dream and broke it (i think it's the case of a lot of the first fan, not me cause i wasn't born yet :p) : you're in right to say what you think even if you love them.
I don't know, it's like when a friend annoy you so you can say hurtful things but you still like him !

I'm not the type of fan who say "Jamiroquai is just sh*t since Synkronized", otherwise i will not be there. Jay can always do good song like "That's Not The Funk I Want" or "Hey Floyd" (and very bad like "Hurtin".. ). But you can't deny that the golden age (EOPE-TROSC-TWM-SYNK) was the most attractive ! :D
That's all

I had this exact same discussion some years ago with 2 young girls who are no longer around here  I played the young girl who loved Jamiroquai no matter what, they were the sane ones who showed me over some time that drugs and cigarretes are a poor excuse to laziness. You can almost count from the fingers of your hands the number of cigarettes/drugs/alcohol - free artists...hard work and a little talent my friends (just like you discussed later) make all the difference between ruin and glory.

That being written, I still love Jamiroquai but must agree they used to have something they don't show anymore. Aging really is a b*tch.

y'know sometimes I just talk. blah blah blah
But I really do love Jamiroquai sound and music.
And I really am a voice person, in music. (I studied voice in college.)
If I don't like the voice, I dont' listen. The voice is the most temperamental instrument too.

I don't focus on the change of voice between JAMI albums, maybe because I basically learned all their music at the same time (besides TWM)!!

@ElTouffodrum -didn't matter if you're a guy or gal. just wondering.
and I like "That's not the Funk" & "Hey Floyd"! awesome.
But "Hurtin'" is meant to sound raspy, as he'd smoked so many fags & drank scotch to get that affect!

He's not Andrea Bocelli!  but he's also not Tom Waits!!

gone to pot means "defective" or "damaged", the pun is MaryJane ;)

If you want to see an artist whose voice has gone to pot - Daryl Hall :(

so each singer has their own quality and resonance. Mary J. Blige has a velvet voice and sings a bit flat, but is consistent. She's fantastic! Jay's voice may be velvet for his regular voice, and soft for his head voice. IMO he is middle pitch and hits the notes right on (doesn't slide)!
I don't think Jay really sings falsetto, but that is really tough for a guy to maintain as he ages
(Smokey Robinson is one of the best) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9NZ7LnkCl7w

and "Blow your mind" really does show what a great voice he had! what's he, 24?
(his voice almost sounds muted)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MVTkbCCl3-I
and jump ahead 10 years and his voice may change in the long notes held, but still good! I think they add some reflection to bring out more clarity (or something) and it sounds great to me.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OEcBz6VtyDg
but voices change regardless, and even allergy meds can change it.

But I stumbled onto this video of Jay singing on Jools Holland "Sunny"
and it's a totally a different style from Jamiroquai but really shows he can sing technique from a completely different genre! This clip totally blows me away!!
year  2000 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v8RbndInF8E

and this is the concert from 2013 I went to. I think his voice was fabulous!
[maybe he used a good Neti pot! (not a pun!)]
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5XdRW5-OH3A
and the band and backup singers were all sublime!

I don't know if it's drugs or something like that but he seems have a more mature voice in TWM than in EOPE. Like if he hadn't do a "teen voice's break" until 1994/6

How do I feel right now?...
Well, I've been battling pneumonia for the last two weeks and now heading into week three. Although I am getting better, I've never experienced illness like this in my LIFE! If you have, then you know what I'm going through. Thankfully, I went to the doctor last week and got the necessary meds, inhalers, etc. Oh yeah, I've never used an inhaler before either...very strange. At least I've been able to catch up on a lot of the Olympics! I'm kind of curious about watching "curling" now. :)

Aw I hope you are feeling better soon Erin! that sounds terrible. :(
@Cacouna -life continues at 40!

So this isn't the right thread -but I'll continue so it doesn't go into Jamiroquai's stuff!
I'm gonna go out on a limb and talk about voice again! It’s bullshit what I’m spewing, as I'm no specialist, but voice had some aspects to it- resonance & quality (sound) & technique (skill).
everybody's voice is unique, 2 examples:
Freddie Mercury, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2pMM4iwC-ag
who was given a gift of a pure & beautiful voice.
Sting http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JbDWuw6swbY
who has a rough raspy but smooth voice. But sounds like he's been up yelling all night!
The sound of their voice can't be changed. The technique is the effort and skill in muscle control, breathing, phonation, resonation, and articulation. Control is everything.
Listen to "Blow my Mind" granted there is scatting but the "love ya, I need ya" is kinda sing-song. Maybe just a style, but the notes are not so committed. "When you Gonna Learn" is all over the place and the notes usually bend down at the end of each phrase. “Say at the speed of cheeba, you and I go deeper” is drawn out with extra syllables. “Half the Man” definitely continues this. (but still good!)
But “Stillness in Time” and “The Return of the Space Cowboy” make a change in some technique with longer held out notes, and less bending at the end of each phrase.
But I see a more solid change in Jamiroquai’s voice in TWM, IMO is an improvement. Listen to “Virtual Insanity” the unique style is there, but the notes are more solidified demonstrating a better technique -you know what note he’s on now (if you were to write sheet music). :P
Same for “Cosmic Girl” , “High Times”, and “Spend a Lifetime”. And this continues on after TWM.

So there you have it.

Hey there user above - thanks for that hilarious pic in response to my attending the 1D concert in the fall. Still smiling - smiling big over that. Thanks!

Not fair - I am gone and finally some real discourse on the band happens.

I agree with - damn cannot recall your entire username for the life of me "drum")

(Oh side note "Scream & Shout" is playing in the cafe and I am resisting every urge to get up and start dancing)

Jay's voice has changed/aged - it is not as smooth as his earlier albums. It's definitely raspier, huskier, phlegm-filled a little. However, maybe it's just my sick twisted mind - but I find it sexier and more mature. I like the trajectory of his albums - from wanting to change to the world and make and difference to his cynical, relationships f------- suck song. I mean "Two Completely Different Things" - he practically is singing about every married man and woman I know, including me.

I agree with Giba7 - holy cow - life and maturing does make you cynical. I was cynical early on but geez, now, I am so f------ jaded. I have a great life and all but I know why and what got me here. Unfortunately, idealism gives way to reality - we live in a world where money is paramount, then power - and unfortunately sex thrown in.

That was the beauty of having a kid - seeing the world through their eyes is so light and refreshing. It softens people a bit. They love purely - adult love is so conditional and f----- up.

Geez, I had another point but the first $5 glass of wine is already affecting me.

Oh yes - Caroli - trust me - aging is really not that bad if you take care of yourself. I do think the constant smoking and drinking (I know as I am sipping my second glass of wine that I cannot finish and drive) have negative repercussions physically.

I do not smoke and drink eeeeh - definitely not as much as when I partied 5 times a week. But seriously I look and feel better now than I did ten years ago. You have to take care of yourself - partying hard for a long time, smoking, drinking takes it wear on the looks.

Also genetics play a role obviously. I do not know a lot about Jay but I think if his handlers were female or if he had a steady woman/gf/wife whatever - he'd probably be better off physically. haha! give him a week here in LA with me - I'd get his bum full of vitamin shots and stuff to cleanse the liver, rub this amazing skin cream on that face that has an ingredient I do not want to reveal - hahaha, make him drink some green juices, hike, wear sunscreen, smack some patches on his arm and give him nicorette. Lols - forgive me I am silly.

But for real, cigarettes are bad, too much alcohol is bad. Eat fresh, eat fish, - healthy stuff tastes just as good as garbage. I horrible at this one - but get sleep. And just f------ move. I look forward to just getting better and better for realz.

OK f--- late for a meeting.

Ciao.

Ooooh yeah before I go - there is anything I wanted to comment on . What's the deal with having to explain your gender and sexual orientation to preface comments and opinions.

What does that matter? I have noticed this on that site - people having to defend - or proclaim they are a woman or man and/or straight. It is a fan forum - it should not matter; nor does it matter to me honestly when I am on here.

I am a girl/woman - not sure if I feel mature enough to proclaim "I AM WOMAN, HEAR ME ROAR" and straight but have kissed a few girls here and there in drunken states - but I mean what does gender/orientation have to do with what I or anyone else say here.

It has nothing to do with music or opinions thereon - or comments about Jay and the band. I mean do I need to go into details to explain that I am young woman, you need a naked selfie - lol :-), you want me to discuss my pregnancy, hahahaha!

ok you folks are lucky - I gotta go. And cannot even finish my second glass.

peace and love to you guys (all 3 that read this.- hahahaha!)

nobody needs to claim who they are or what gender. but I do feel there is a difference between a woman's perspective and a male's perspective.
I also think there's a difference between an old perspective and a young perspective.
I will be kinder to someone 16.

this week we went to a hotel, that features baby animals. (cats, fennec fox, bears)
this week they had a baby lion, and a baby cougar.
the owners of these animals exploit them and charge $50 for a pose & picture, all the while bopping the cat's nose just so he looks up. So I noticed everybody wanted the lion, but not the energetic spotted cougar. My heart just sunk. Even though I'd never pay $50 for a dumb picture, I asked how much to get the cougar out to play. They said they could bring him to the hotel room we stayed(for a price).

I imagined he'd get out and run all over!
So we did it. He was so beautiful!!  But he didn't run really, it was a confined space and he was a bit scared. And then he went back.

but my heart sinks so much because I know he's in a cage. and I fed his exploitation.
plus I think my dog can smell him 2 days later

Geez, that's kind of makes me sad in my tummy. People will exploit and do anything for $$$$ - and while I know money is important; I believe in earning it with integrity. Uggh.

We do not treat humans (at least in some countries) that way and I feel my dogs love me more unconditionally and love me a whole lot more genuinely than most people in my life. They are snuggling me now :-)

I even babysat a lovely cat for a friend (and I am not a cat person) but she was loving and mellow. I miss her - especially when I was in the kitchen she would just keep walking back and forth to rub her fur against my legs. Or should we come cuddle on the couch when I read. Sweet.

(that being said I had a crazy kitten that scared me to death because he thought he was a tiger/lion or something - he terrorized bf's, even bit holes in their pants - super lol :-)
