Why does this forum have no active moderators at all?

Postby Knjaz Milos on Mon Dec 17, 2007 8:47 am

f**k, every hour there's a 'free viagra/porn/cocaine' advert popping up here and nobody's there to clean it up.

I think it'd be a far too obvious thing to say 'give us new moderators', so I just left it unsaid.

there was another topic like this yesterday, which was removed pretty quickly
it's bad though that people can come on here and post such things so easily
i hope no young kids get to see this

I'm really saddened to read that you think myself, Sandra and Ed don't do a good job at moderating this forum and is in need of new moderators.

We try our best to be here as often as we can - and as JamFan said, the spam that was on here yesterday was removed pretty quickly, as soon as we see spam, we remove it immediately - can cannot stop people from spamming the forum, only remove them as soon as we're aware of it.

Please remember that we, the moderators, do this out of our own free time and just don't sit here 24 hours a day waiting to moderate the forum - we have our own lives as well - I'm a mother to 3 children, including a new born baby, currently Sandra is away on vacation and Ed is studying - so between the 3 of us there is always someone here once a day going through every single message & topic to ensure that it is not spam - and let me assure you that this is very time consuming.

If you feel that you're not satisfied and think someone else can do a better job, then please contact David, but I hope you reconsider as the 3 moderators you have at the moment work very hard to ensure this is the best JMQ forum there is and we are proud to be moderators of this forum :)

Samantha, I'm really, really sorry if my post above offended you in any way. I'm not denying you are good moderators, but we need to find a good solution for this situation, and fast. I suggest we make a topic in which we'd report all topics and replies that break the rules so that you [the moderating team] can find them instantly and clean the forums up, instead of taking a peek under every single rock.

I think it's hard to completely get rid of all the spam on the forum, David has done a great job in not letting through spam in the first place, then us mods have to check to see if any get past David's initial spam filter and then delete them as soon as we can.

I think it's a great idea about notifying the mods and other members of spam messages or breaking of the rules - I'll pass it along to lovely David and see what he thinks :) :) :)

i immediately contacted david about the appearing of pornlinks/spam ...it has to do with all the changes i think
i am sure there will be possibilities to avoid this spam floods...

I think it'd be a far too obvious thing to say 'give us new moderators', so I just left it unsaid.

Samantha, I'm really, really sorry if my post above offended you in any way.

knajaz u must be kidding
i am very disappointed that u see it as that...
think a bit of your words please before posting..u could hurt somebody.
sam ed and me are really spending loads of time to look after the forum.
and complaints like this out of the sudden because there there are again some porn spam floods..... is it just that or is there something else make u say that?

I suggest we make a topic in which we'd report all topics and replies that break the rules so that you [the moderating team] can find them instantly and clean the forums up, instead of taking a peek under every single rock.

that´s actually a very good idea i think.
some of u guys have me added on msn..as yesterday that was kinda helpful as i got the link there to the spamthreads.

yeah samantha..totally agreed.
when i started here i did it all alone and i am glad to have u and ed as great mods here on my side :)

Hi Knjaz and everyone else. I thought I'd better post a reply to let you know what's happening. Clearly after the new site changed to the new design the forum registration form changed as well we have been hit by an ever increasing number of automated spam-bots hitting trying to sell us all kinds of viagra and other such things!!

The mods are doing a great job in deleting any that they see but as Samantha said they're doing all of this in their free time and for the love of the band and helping make this forum as friendly and spam-free as they can. I think they're doing a fantastic job.

I have spoken to the people involved with the forum management and there will be changes made in the coming days to the registration process to hopefully avoid all of these posts. Please bear with us whilst we sort this out.

In the meantime feel free to let us know about anything bad that you see on the forum and we will try and address it as soon as possible.

Thank you for your understanding,

David

I had spam problems as well at jamirotalk.net some time ago, and I was deleting all day long fake registrations and spam messages. Then I changed the settings for the registrations and enabled the automatic activation of accounts by users. Every new member had to be activated by myself after I had checked the regitstration. That's a lot of work. But since half a year or so we have installed a good captcha. It disables automatic registations by spambots and it is the first solution I found which really works! At least for now. I guess it is a question of time until they find a way to sneak in again, but I still have the power to activate the accounts myself - so there are no surprising porn postings.

David, if you need help I can look up what kind of captcha I have - I cannot remember at the moment, I just know that Rinaldo gave me the hint and we found it at the modifications database at phpbb.com.

Hope this helps.

Greetings from the (nearly) spam free good vibes zone Jamirotalk! ;)

...oh, and by the way, I think the funktion to order a new password does not work. I forgot mine and orderd a new one, and I was told that a new one was sent to my email address, but it didn't arrive. I tested my email account and it works so that cannot be the reason. In the end I rememberd my (old) password, so I could log in... just thought I mention this. Maybe you check this if it happens more often... Cheers, Mouse

Thx CosmicGirl :) The 3 kiddies are actually really good kiddies - just have to find time to go on the computer when they're not here - but I'll always be here as I love the forum :) :) :)

Hopefully the naughty spammers will be slowing down now with the introduction of the registration process, so we won't have to worry about spam anymore :)

Hello there,

Geez.....you would think there would be a understanding about this after all this discussion. Anyway, I think you guys are doing a great job on your modding, very very hard to keep deleting spam/porn posts how quickly they appears on the BBS, especially the OFFICIAL BBS. Knjas, please give the mods a proper amount of time to fix the posts and suss them away BEFORE slightly complaining about it. Keep up the good work guys and gals, if you ever need a backup mod here, just give my enormously buffaloman shaped silver doorknocker on my e-mail a hard thump! Cheers!

Hell, it's not even your fault this place is so insecure. If you're saying that I offended you with 'six in a row', believe me, I had no intention to do that. I was only comparing the frequency of posting of actual topics against the one at which the spambots do their 'work'. You can delete them all [spam topics] in a moment, but it'll still be six-in-a-row, and it's still none of your fault. Did I even say it was anybody's fault that the spambots were working far too hard in the last few days? There's most certainly a misunderstanding here, and if mention of things that you can't alter offends you, then it's either what I said [a misunderstanding], or you yourself are a 'closet' spammer, which is highly unlikely. Sorry if my post sounded so negative, it was not my intention. So listen, if we're still gonna keep up getting confused between wavelengths and amplitudes, and if it's my fault that you're getting confused, then I've got simply nothing against leaving this BB for a definite, or even an indefinite period of time.

hey, let's talk!

i really don't have any problems with you mate, its just you're trying to make some pressure on us, and remember we are humans!!

my intention was not to make you leave this forum... i was trying to solve this... i hope you understand! maybe we can't understand each other, because, in my case, english is not my mother language... so there a lot of things i have to learn, dunno your case....

let's do this rite! and we are a community and we have to do this together!

bye!
