How did the name 'Jamiroquai' come about?

Postby BEGGERZ on Wed Jan 03, 2007 4:50 pm

'Jamiroquai' is a very unique and unusual name for a band, was there a specific reason for this name, was it Jay Kay's idea? If anybody know please fill me in, thanks, Beggerz 8)

From memory, I think it's from 'jam' as in jamming with a band and the 'iroquoi' tribe in America - and he combined both names to make Jamiroquai :) :) :)

You can learn more about the tribe here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iroquois
http://www.iroquois.net/

* and actually, the correct spelling is Iroquois, not Iroquais like Jamiroquai!

Thats all correct... but on the high times dvd in an interview he mentions a helicopter too in vietnam which was called something like the belle iroquai

Weird thing is, I've always had a strange fascination with vietnam - read books and got a lot of films (and being female and not butch, bit weird to be into it hey!) I reckon I knew him when we both soliders

Could possibly be... the weather is crazy...

Thanks Euges for those links.

Beggerz i think it was Funkeducation who wrote a great biography somewhere in this forum... look for it, its great reading. Plus you'll fill in all those gaps about the band that you don't know, and then u can become a hardcore obsessed fan. :)

Yes, the weather is awful. So if I don't read this i'm not a true fan? I think i'll just stick to loving the music than making it the mission of my life to discover every little detail.

I asked a simple question and I got my answer, Samantha told me, so I thanked her for it, I don't need to all this stuff about this EOPES booklet...perhaps you just like to feel superior if you mention all these little things that you have done.
