Postby samantha1170 on Tue Sep 26, 2006 8:46 am

Hi everyone, I found this article at Funkin.com...

Runaway television promo begins

Sony BMG have announced that Jamiroquai will be performing Runaway on the UK television show Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway on 7 October. The news item reads:

Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Runaway!

With their hotly-anticipated new single scheduled for release on 30th October, Jamiroquai are embarking on a series of live performances and interviews, starting with a performance of Runaway on Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway on Saturday 7th October.

Tune in to ITV1 around 7pm (check your local television listings in case of regional schedule variations).

I couldn't watch it, we don't have that TV station here in Montenegro. :( Nevermind. Good to see that it was a great interview, that the guys were there, nice to see Jay happy. :D

Can I find a transcript somewhere or can I watch it on the Internet?

Funkin.com as ever doing a sterling job getting stuff up - truly the best jamiroquai site there is :D

However, in this case they really didn't need to go to the trouble. I sincerely hope there was a very good reason for miming i.e. one that was beyond the band's control, e.g. hurried schedule, lack of time, equipment or something like that.

As we know, jamiroquai are a Pop act but they manage to hold a fan base of people who were there when they stood for live performance in the face of the soulless eurobeat crud that was popular in the early 90's. Now we have work from the band that is moving further and further away from live performance and that is understandable because popular records today all have that direct approach to production where everything is protooled to sound tight and hard. But those of us who - when the chips are down - like the new stuff but much prefer it performed live and enjoy the more live feel of the older albums really don't deserve to be palmed off with miming - it's embarrassing to be a fan of a Pop act as it is and justifying it as good music without them shooting themselves in the foot by doing mickey mouse performances like that.

I hope that this was a one-off and that miming was the only option for them on the night.

You've got to remember that it's up to the producers of the show who decide if a musical act is going live or will be miming. David was at the taping of the show and said that it was a very quick turnaround between breaks and different segments with the TV show, so that is probably why they were asked to mime.

By the way they didn't completely mime it all, Jay was singing over the track as well - you can hear the track voice and his voice together at times during the video :) :) :)

Rob Harris put a comment on funkin.com

"just to set the record straight.Jay was singing live on the show.He wasn't miming at all. There were of course some of Jays backing vocal parts left on tape as we felt they would have been missed had they not been there. With regards to us doing a playback, these shows run live to broadcast. Its a case of you either do playback or you don't appear at all. It's not our choice. On a show like this there is just not enought time to set up evrything as all of the equipment is placed on stage during the advert comercial breaks."

Hello,

:? Kind of not used to posting here, but with this new look, I'm more comfortable now :? . Anyway, what a great performance that was, even if the backtracking was a little nag to behold. But the little firework prank with the streamers was a "hoot and a holler", and the startled J really looked like he was "backtracking" HIMSELF, giving the look of him trying not to fall off a building or something. I look forward to more great Jami live action this fall! OH!!! And if you are not able to download this clip off the Funkin Site, you can view it on YouTube here:

Thanks for listening and Peace!
